Garmin Approach R10 — FAQs
What space do I need for indoor use?
Place the unit 6–8 ft (1.8–2.4 m) behind the ball and allow at least 8 ft (2.4 m) of ball flight into a net or screen. As a rule of thumb, plan for 14–16 ft (4.3–4.9 m) total room depth, plus safe ceiling height for your swing.
Does the R10 support putting in simulator rounds?
In Home Tee Hero there’s no live putting; strokes are assigned based on approach proximity. Third-party simulators handle putting within their own software.
Do I need a subscription?
Core launch monitor metrics work without a subscription. A Garmin Golf membership unlocks Home Tee Hero virtual courses and online tournaments.
Which simulator software is supported?
Home Tee Hero runs via the Garmin Golf app. The R10 also supports leading third-party sim platforms including E6 CONNECT and Awesome Golf.
How accurate is the R10?
With correct setup, typical tolerances are around ±1° for launch angle and direction, ±1 mph for ball speed, and ±3 mph for club speed. Proper alignment and adequate ball flight are essential.
Does the R10 measure or calculate spin?
Spin is calculated in standard indoor use. Using Titleist Pro V1/Pro V1x RCT balls indoors enables much more precise spin capture, which in turn improves carry-distance consistency.
What improves indoor performance the most?
Give the radar clear ball flight (minimum 8 ft), position the unit 6–8 ft behind the ball, keep it level and square to target, and use RCT balls for tighter spin and carry indoors.
What data does the R10 track?
Ball speed, launch angle, launch direction, spin rate and spin axis (indoors: best with RCT), carry and total distance, apex height and dispersion; plus club head speed, club path, face angle, face-to-path, angle of attack, smash factor, and swing tempo.
Can I use the R10 outdoors?
Yes. Set it 6–8 ft behind the strike point on level ground with a clear view downrange. Wind and heavy precipitation can affect any Doppler radar’s readings—choose stable conditions where possible.
Is it weatherproof?
The unit is IPX7 rated (withstands incidental water exposure). Avoid operating in heavy rain or where water droplets or debris can interfere with the radar beam.
How long does the battery last?
Up to around 10 hours on a full charge, depending on temperature, connectivity, and screen time on your paired device.
Does it record swing video?
Yes. The Garmin Golf app can automatically capture swing video on your phone or tablet and overlay the key metrics for each shot.
What devices does it work with?
iOS and Android devices running the Garmin Golf app. For simulator play, check the specific requirements of your chosen sim platform in addition to the app.
Any tips for alignment?
Use the included stand, ensure the device is level, and aim the alignment indicator directly at your target line. Re-check alignment after moving the unit or changing lie/stance.
