GolfBays SimBox

The SimBox by GolfBays is quite possibly the most comprehensive product to start you off playing golf in your own home. It is light, portable can be set up with no tools, and can fit a multitude of rooms due to coming in six different sizes. All this means it is the most accessible way to start enjoying home golf simulation. This post will give an overview on why this product is a market leader and is changing the game.

What is a SimBox?

Our SimBox is essentially an all-in-one solution for having a golf studio at home or in a commercial setting. It consists of the metal structure which is built up with durable clicker tubes which make it easy to assemble for everybody, no tools required. It also contains a black velvet surround. This as well is incredibly durable; this is meant to stop errant shots that go off to either side or above the screen. It also gives a great, dark surround to your screen, blocking out any surrounding light, ensuring your picture quality is picture perfect. Finally, we have the screen, this is a HDprojections screen. Unlike the traditional archery nets that have been used for years in golf studios, our HD screen is not porous. This means that all the light from your projector is captured on the screen, giving an incredibly immersive gaming or practice experience.

Thew reason why a SimBox is a great option, is because it negates the need to have a purpose-built structure built in your home or commercial space. In the past if you wanted a golf studio then you will have had to build a free-standing structure in your garden or other space. This can be incredibly costly and tricky with planning regulations and space issues. This all before you start kitting it out with launch monitors, mats, computers and projectors. Therefore, with a SimBox, the cost can be kept down hugely, and you even have the option to break it down and store it if your space is needed for something else, it truly is a comprehensive package.

Where can I use a SimBox?

The answer to this question is, anywhere you have space. The main thing you need to get the most enjoyment out of your at home golf simulator is enough space to work in. This will also affect the type of launch monitor you use. Let’s go through the basics first. Height is one of the most important factors you’ll need to consider. The minimum you’ll need to hit driver is 2.7m however, we always recommend 3m as the most comfortable height. Next is width, to swing a club with no restrictions we recommend at least 2.8m as a minimum. Here though you will have to bear in mind that you won’t be hitting the centre of the screen. In order to hit the centre, you will need 4.5m. Finally, this all depends on your launch monitor, for a radar-based system you will need around 5m from screen to monitor and for a camera-based system you will need around 3m from screen to hitting area.

If you have this kind of space, then the SimBox will be the ideal solution for you, instead of building a freestanding structure. It is light, durable and cost effective.

How do I assemble a SimBox?

Building your SimBox is so simple and easy to do. The first time I set one up for a corporate event with GolfBays it only took about 45 mins, now it takes me about 30 mins, and I can’t even put flatpack furniture together.

When your SimBox arrives, it will be in two boxes, one of these contains your metal tubing for the structure. While the other contains the velvet outer layer and your hitting screen. You will also receive in the box, a set of instructions on how to piece it together. But I am here to give you some tips to get it done faster and start hitting shots.

The first step is to start building the top section of your SimBox first. You will do this with the metal clicker tubes, each tube is numbered and will correspond with your instruction sheet which is very easy to follow. Build the top section to about waist height then you are ready for the next step.

Step number two is to now attach the black velvet surround. Lay the material under your structure with the soft velvet side pointing down. There will be a sleeve on either side of the material that align with your side roof tubes. Slide the tubes through the sleeves to attach the surround, you can then start to Velcro it to the structure.

Step three is attaching your screen. While the structure is still at waist height you can start to fasten the screen onto the back bar with the white Velcro straps. Make sure the black velvet surround of the screen is on the same side as your main velvet surround.

Step four is to build the structure up. Following the numbered instruction guide, build the rest of the outer structure and you will start to see it all take shape.

Step five is to ensure everything is secured. Make sure all the Velcro straps are attached, this includes your black surround and your screen. Also, during this step you can attach the foam padding to the bottom bar at the rear of your SimBox, this will prevent the ball bouncing back if this bar is hit.

Step six is to start hitting and enjoying your new SimBox. A quick tip is that if you find that the ball is bouncing off the screen too quickly, just loosen some of the Velcro straps attached to the screen. This way the impact of the golf ball is absorbed better.
